If you’ve lived in your home for a while, you may be getting tired of how it looks. That’s a common feeling for many homeowners. But if moving is a hassle (and expensive), how are you meant to make your tired kitchen feel new again? From new kitchen cabinet colors to a simple reorganization, there are many ways to spruce up your kitchen and make it feel like home again.
Refurbish the Cabinets
Your cabinets and drawers are a large focus of your kitchen, even if you don’t realize it. Repainting or even replacing them is an inexpensive way to give your kitchen a whole new look. If you have the money to spend, you can hire people to refurbish or completely replace your cabinets with brand new materials and give a significant change to the area. Similarly, if you’re a little more strapped for cash, repainting your cabinets is a great way to give them new life.
Update the Lighting
The lighting in any room is incredibly important, and the lighting in your kitchen is no exception. Rather than the standard ceiling strip lights that your kitchen most likely came with, look at the wide variety of options for lighting at your local hardware store. You can get something simple, like strips that stick underneath your cabinets to light your countertops, or, if you have the money to spend, you can get a unique lighting fixture that serves both functional and aesthetic purposes.
Switch Out the Hardware
An inexpensive yet significant way to change how your kitchen looks is to switch out the hardware in it. The knobs on the cabinets, bars on the drawers, and even your faucet are things you see and touch all the time. These things are surprisingly inexpensive (depending on where you shop) and are often easy to install. You’d be surprised how much difference a small change like that can make.
Change the Backsplash
The color and texture of your kitchen’s backsplash can make all the difference in the way your kitchen looks. Now, replacing the backsplash completely is often an expensive thing, but there are inexpensive options. Peel and stick tiles come in a variety of textures and colors and are very easy to install to give your kitchen a fresh look.
As a note, certain peel and stick tiles can be more difficult to install than others. Make sure you follow the instructions provided on the package and keep an eye on the tiles. Most adhesives wear down over time, and you’ll want to make sure you fix and/or replace them when needed.
Cut Down On Clutter
If you constantly have things on your counters that get in the way of you actually using your kitchen, evaluate if you really need all those things. If you do, can you reorganize your cabinets to make space for them in there? If not, look into purchasing some sort of storage device for these extra things that will keep them in easy reach but out of your way at the same time.
